چکیده

Security concerns regarding the stored biometric data is impeding the widespread public acceptance of biometric technology. Though a number of bio-crypto algorithms have been proposed, they have limited practical applicability due to the trade-off between recognition performance and security of the template. In this paper, we improve the recognition performance as well as the security of a fingerprint based biometric cryptosystem, called fingerprint fuzzy vault. We incorporate minutiae descriptors, which capture ridge orientation and frequency information in a minutia’s neighborhood, in the vault construction using the fuzzy commitment approach. Experimental results show that with the use of minutiae descriptors, the fingerprint matching performance improves from an FAR of 0.7% to 0.01% at a GAR of 95% with some improvement in security as well. An analysis of security while considering two different attack scenarios is also presented. A preliminary version of this paper appeared in the International Conference on Pattern Recognition, 2008 and was selected as the Best Scientific Paper in the biometrics track. 2009 Elsevier B.V. A Geometric Transformation to Protect Minutiae-Based Fingerprint Templates

The increasing use of biometrics in different environments presents new challenges. Most importantly, biometric data are irreplaceable. Therefore, storing biometric templates, which is unique to individual user, entails significant security risks. In this paper, we propose a geometric transformation for securing the minutiae based fingerprint templates. The proposed scheme employs a robust one-...

BioHashing for securing fingerprint minutiae templates

The storage of fingerprints is an important issue as this biometric modality is more and more deployed for real applications. The a prori impossibility to revoke a biometric template (like a password) in case of theft, is a major concern for privacy reasons. We propose in this paper a new method to secure fingerprint minutiae templates by storing a biocode while keeping good recognition results...

Rank-Level Fusion of Multimodal Biometric Cryptosystems

In this paper we present an effective scheme that preserves the biometric templates more secured. We present a new algorithm called Enhanced Blind Encryption Algorithm for securing biometric templates between client and server and using that for authentication. There are four phases involved in this process namely, enrollment, identification, matching and fusion. During enrollment, biometric tr...

Attacks and Countermeasures in Fingerprint Based Biometric Cryptosystems

We investigate implementations of biometric cryptosystems protecting fingerprint templates (which are mostly based on the fuzzy vault scheme by Juels and Sudan in 2002) with respect to the security they provide. We show that attacks taking advantage of the system’s false acceptance rate, i.e. false-accept attacks, pose a very serious risk — even if brute-force attacks are impractical to perform...

Multibiometric Systems: Fusion Strategies and Template Security By Karthik Nandakumar Multibiometric systems, which consolidate information from multiple biometric sources, are gaining popularity because they are able to overcome limitations such as non-universality, noisy sensor data, large intra-user variations and susceptibility to spoof attacks that are commonly encountered in unibiometric ...
